Cold laser therapy is a noninvasive procedure that uses wavelengths of red light to penetrate tissues, relieving inflammation, increasing blood flow, and decreasing pain.

Lasers are nothing more than a beam of light that travels at a specific set frequency that allows the light to penetrate tissues and generate heat. Class IV lasers, such as the one we use here, can be programmed at a range of frequencies to treat numerous problems.

Laser therapy has been proven to increase circulation, moving water, oxygen and nutrients to damaged areas. With this, an optimal healing environment is created, ensuring your pet is back to their old self!

The application of laser therapy causes bio-photons to travel to damaged cells. This accelerates cell division by mitochondrial stimulation, ATP production, increased leukocyte phagocytosis, and fibroblast production. As the metabolic activity of the cell increases, nutrients will flow across the cell membranes, increasing cellular function and health.

Each laser therapy session takes approximately 10-15 minutes, depending on the number of areas treated. Technicians that are trained in laser therapy will perform the treatment on your pet. For scheduled laser therapy sessions, you will be encouraged to stay with your pet. Our technicians will use a handheld probe to apply the laser energy to the affected area. The hand piece moves across the affected area in a scanning, grid-like pattern.

There will be no sedation necessary during laser treatment, as the procedure is noninvasive and painless. Your pet may feel warmth and the movement of the probe across the affected area.

Not unless we have to! The laser light is absorbed by skin pigmentation and fur; however we program the laser for each individual patient. We will inform you if our veterinarian feels it is necessary to shave your pet’s fur to ensure there is limited light scatter.

In order to receive optimal results, a series of visits are recommended. Typically, treatments are performed on a “3-2-1” schedule. This means three treatments the first week, two treatments the second week, and one in the third week.

Patients typically show greater comfort within 12-24 hours.

The FDA approved Class IV laser therapy for use in humans and animals in 2005. All veterinary staff are trained in safety and use of our laser. During the treatments, all personal, patients, and clients present will be required to wear protective eyewear. It makes for quite the picture! (The first picture is on us)

Historical contraindications include, but are not limited to: malignancy, thyroid and thymus glands, testicles, pregnancy, and active hemorrhage. Photosensitizing medications should be avoided. Please report ALL medications your pet is on prior to therapy.
